How does the Santa tracker work?

Our Santa tracker follows Saint Nick's magical journey around the world on Christmas Eve. Santa always flies from east to west, starting near the international date line and visiting children as soon as they are asleep β€” usually between 9 pm and midnight local time. That's why the first stops are New Zealand and Australia, and the last ones are Alaska and Hawaii.

Unlike other trackers, ours also estimates when Santa will reach your own neighborhood, based on your time zone. And while you wait, Santa can do something no other tracker offers: send your child a personalized video message with their name, their city and their proudest moment of the year.

Santa's flight plan β€” when he arrives around the world

Santa always lands around bedtime β€” about 21:00 local time. Because bedtime sweeps westward around the planet with the time zones, his "one night" lasts more than 26 hours. Here is the approximate schedule for December 24:

When does the Santa tracker go live?

Live tracking starts on the morning of December 24 (UTC), when Santa takes off toward New Zealand β€” the first country where children go to bed. The countdown on this page shows exactly how long is left.

When will Santa come to my house?

Santa arrives when children are fast asleep β€” usually between 9 pm and midnight your local time on December 24. Our tracker shows a personal countdown for your time zone, so you know exactly when it's bedtime.

How fast does Santa fly?

To visit every child in one night, Santa's sleigh travels faster than any airplane β€” crossing the whole world in about 24 hours by flying west along the night. Scientists suspect a little Christmas magic is involved.

Can Santa really talk to my child?

Yes! On our site Santa records personalized video messages: he says your child's name, their city, their achievements and any special message you write. You can create a free preview in under two minutes.

What time does Santa take off?

How is this different from the NORAD Santa tracker?

NORAD has tracked Santa since 1955 using radar and satellites, and Google runs its own Santa's Village. Our tracker adds what they don't show: the exact time Santa reaches your own city, a real-speed preview of the flight over your home, and a personal video message from Santa himself.

Does Santa visit every country?

Yes! The route on our globe covers about 480 major cities in more than 150 countries on every continent β€” and between the big cities Santa visits every town and village. If your city glows on the globe, he's on his way.

How many presents does Santa deliver?

Roughly 750 million homes in a single night. The gift counter on the tracker estimates deliveries live while he flies β€” watch the number climb second by second on December 24.
